Tennessee Takes Down Memphis

So Tennessee beat Memphis last night 66-62 in Memphis. I'm not suprised that Memphis lost this game because they didn't play well. Despite their poor play, they still were in the game. Either way I expect both of these teams to be # 1 seeds and make it fairly deep into the NCAA Tournament.

Right now I'd have to say the other # 1 seeds would have to be UCLA and then probably North Carolina. Duke and Kansas would be next in line but if Texas wins out the rest of their regular season games and then wins the Big-12 tournament; they could sneak in there and grab a # 1 if one of the other teams starts to struggle.

I have a hard time seeing another other teams moving up to grab a #1, the only other two teams who could even make a case would be Georgetown or Stanford and I don't think that will happen unless ALL the other teams play horribly down the stretch.

Besides the teams I mentioned above, some teams that could make noise in the tournament by making it to the Elite 8 and maybe the Final 4 are UConn, Xavier, and Louisville. I also like Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Marquette but I think they all also have the potential to flame out early. I think their success depends more on the matchups they draw. I'm not really sure how good Drake and Butler are and I'm not totally impressed with St Mary's, especially after losing to Kent State last night.

Finally, there are quite a few lower level teams that have the most potential to blow up everyone's brackets come tournament time. Assuming they all make the tournament, I think South Alabama, Davidson, Kent State, and UMass. I also have a sneaky feeling that Southern Illinois will win the Misouri Valley Conference Tournament so they could bust up a bracket too if they get there.

NCAA Basketball is one of my favorite sports, I follow it just as closely as MLB, NFL, & the NBA, so you can expect alot of posts once things fall into place more and especially once the Conference and NCAA Tournaments start. I will probably rank all the teams 1 through 64 and I may even throw up my own version of Bracketology before selection Sunday and then see how close I am to getting it right.
