Orlando NBA Summer League - Day 1

Day 1 of the Orlando Summer League was today. I got a chance to catch some of the Miami Heat-Chicago Bulls game online and let me tell you, it was pretty ugly to watch and I would imagine most of the games are going to be that way.

Here's a rundown of all the action:

Game 1 Boxscore: Indiana Pacers 95 Oklahoma City (Sonics) 78

Notables:

Russell Westbrook, OK: 18 points, 7-13 FG, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 turnover
Jeff Green, OK: 21 points, 6-16 FG, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 turnovers
D.J. White, OK: 8 points, 4-9 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist
DeVon Hardin, OK: DNP

Stanley Burrell, IND: 3 points, 1-1 FG, 4 turnovers

Comments: Nice first performance from Russell Westbrook in this game. The key here to me is that he only had 1 turnover. DeVon Hardin didn't play but I'm not sure why. Brandon Rush and Roy Hibbert can't play yet for Indiana because the trade they are involved in isn't official yet.

Game 2 Boxscore: Miami Heat 94 Chicago Bulls 70

Notables:

Michael Beasley, MIA: 28 points, 9-21 FG, 9 rebounds, 2 assists
Mario Chalmers, MIA: 11 points, 2-8 FG, 6 assists, 4 steals, 1 turnover
David Padgett, MIA: 4 points, 1-1 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist
Josh Duncan, MIA: 6 points, 0-5 FG, 5 rebounds
Kasib Powell, MIA: 15 points, 5-9 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Pat Calathes, MIA: DNP

Derrick Rose, CHI: 10 points, 3-8 FG, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 5 turnovers
Tyrus Thomas, CHI: 12 points, 3-7 FG, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks
Joakim Noah, CHI: 7 points, 2-5 FG, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks
Will Daniels, CHI: 4 points, 2-7 FG

Comments: Michael Beasley was impressive in this game, scoring pretty much at ease. I didn't see much from him defensively or hustle wise but he definitely is going to be able to score right away in the NBA. Derrick Rose looked shakey early on and the defense of Mario Chalmers seemed to bother him. Josh Duncan missed all his shots from the floor but hit all 6 of his free throws. Will Daniels did not do much to impress either, shooting just 2 of 7 from the floor and failing to pull down any rebounds.

Game 3 Boxscore: New Jersey Nets 86 Orlando Magic 74

Notables:

Chris Douglas-Roberts, NJ: 15 points, 7-14 FG, 5 rebounds, 2 steals
Ryan Anderson, NJ: 14 points, 4-8 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 steal
Jaycee Carroll, NJ: 22 points, 7-13 FG, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 turnovers
Brook Lopez, NJ: 10 points, 5-10 FG, 0 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 5 fouls

Courtney Lee, ORL: 13 points, 5-11 FG, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 4 turnovers
Derrick Byars ORL: 15 points, 6-13 FG, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Brian Roberts, ORL: 6 points, 1-5 FG, 1 rebound, 1 assist
Mark Tyndale, ORL: 0 points, 0-2 FG, 1 rebound, 2 steals

Comments: Jaycee Carrol was impressive in this game scoring 22 points, pulling down 7 boards, and dishing out 5 assists. Definitely a performance he needs to sustain if he wants to make an NBA roster. Chris Douglas-Roberts, Courtney Lee, and Ryan Anderson were all solid in their debuts. Brook Lopez pulling down zero rebounds in a game concerns me considering he is a 7-footer but it's best to wait and see how he performs in the rest of the games.
