NBA Weekly

Nothing major to talk about in the NBA world this week, so I am just going to give a rundown of this week's news and not as much analysis as I usually give:

- Andre Iguodala will be staying in Philadelphia after signing a 6 year-$80 million contract. No surprise here because it wouldn't make much sense to sign Elton Brand and then let Iguodala walk. There is still some debate on just how good Iguodala is and if he is worth such a big contract. I don't see much difference between him and Josh Smith and Iguodala is getting about $2 million a year more than him, which is comparable.

- The Cavs traded for Milwaukee PG Maurice Williams in a three team deal. The trade also involved Oklahoma City who received Joe Smith from the Cavs and Desmond Mason from the Bucks, while Milwaukee got Luke Ridenour, Damon Jones, and Adrian Griffin. Mo Williams is a good PG but I think his defense might be a little suspect and he does like to dominate the ball. Losing Joe Smith won't help the Cavs either, unless they expect J.J. Hickson to step right in and be productive this season.

- The Hawks will be keeping Forward Josh Smith after matching the 5 year-$58 million offer he got from Memphis. I'm happy to see the Hawks keep Smith, so now we can see if the Hawks will build on their playoff experience from last season. I'm predicting this team to make the playoffs again and have a winning record. The Hawks also signed free agent combo guard Flip Murray, who along with Maurice Evans will attempt to replace the production they lost from Josh Childress.

- Bad news for the Portland Trailblazers: Brandon Roy is having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. No word on how long he will be out though.

- The Clippers signed PG Jason Williams, who will backup the newly acquired Baron Davis. This means that the Clippers will probably not bring back Shaun Livingston.

- Look like the 76ers have lost Jason Smith for the season with a torn ACL. Smith averaged 15.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks on 55.1% shooting during Summer League play.

- The Pistons re-signed little used Forward Walter Herrmann.

- Oklahoma City did make a move this past week by acquiring Kyle Weaver from the Bobcats for 2009 second round pick.

- James Gist, who played well for the Spurs in Summer League, signed to play in Italy next season.

- Jaycee Carroll, who played for both Toronto and New Jersey in Summer League, also has signed to play in Italy next season.

- Finally, MainStreet takes some time out to look at the new trend where NBA ballers are leaving their American teams to play for Europe.
