NCAA Tournament Roundup

Alot of good action yesterday and here is a run down of some of the best action:

West Virginia knocked off Duke 73-67, who struggled shooting the whole night. Joe Alexander was great once again with 22 points and 11 rebounds but the key to this game was backup guard Joe Mazzulla. He almost recorded a triple-double with 13 points 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Mazzulla, who is a Rhode Island product, helped execute the West Virginia game plan to crash the boards and it worked as they dominated Duke on the glass 45-19.

Now onto the UCLA game which was one of the ugliest games of the night and to me the most controversial. UCLA was trailing most of the game but was able to comeback and take the lead late in the game and win 53-49. However, there was a horrible no call at the end of the game, with the score 51-49 David Sloan of Texas A&M drove to the lane and got completely raked across his forearm by UCLA and no foul was called. I can't believe that nobody even mentioned it, it's kind of sickening in a way and I can't believe the refs didn't call it. Well..maybe I can believe the refs didn't call it because the game was in Anaheim, much like the Stanford-Marquette game which we will get to next.

Stanford was able to defeat Marquette 82-81 in OT. Brook Lopez hit the game winning shot for the Cardinal, who were whistled for 10 less fouls and shot 16 more free throws than Marquette. This was a great game to watch but I felt like there were quite a few tick-tack fouls that were called on Marquette. I also learned that I really don't like the Lopez twins and their whining but that's another story.

Finally, Michigan State was able to beat Pittsburgh 65-54. The game was not all that exciting but there is a sick dunk by Pitt's Sam Young in the highlights below that you should check out.
