NBA Playoffs Rundown

New Orleans 99 Dallas 94: The New Orleans Hornets sent the Dallas Mavericks packing last night as they became the third team to be Gone Fishin'. I thought that Dallas would win this series in 7 but it is pretty apparent that Jason Kidd is pretty washed up. I thought he would pick up his play in the playoffs but that was not the case. It's not that I thought New Orleans was bad, I just expected Dallas to play alot better. Dallas has now lost 9 straight road games in the playoffs and I think this team needs to make some major changes in the off season.

As for the Hornets, well Chris Paul was terrific again last night as he had a triple double. He finished the game with 24 points, 15 assists, and 11 rebounds. David West and Jannero Pargo also starred again last night as well. West finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks, while Pargo had 17 points off the bench on 7 of 9 shooting.

The New Orleans-San Antonio series should be a real good one. I'm not sure who I am going to pick yet but I am leaning towards San Antonio and will definitely have a preview of the series before it starts.

Detroit 98 Philadelphia 81: Detroit came out and handled their business in this game. If they had played with this intensity the whole series, it would probably be over by now. That being said, they did get the job done in this game and the Celtics should be taking notes because they need to do the same thing against the Hawks in Game 5 of their series tonight.

Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Richard Hamilton, and Tashaun Prince all had solid games in this one. Between the four of them, they all shot over 50% from the floor and combined for 77 points on 33 of 57 shooting. Billups led the way with 21 points and 12 assists and Wallace added 19 points 6 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 3 assists.

This series should pretty much be over in Game 6, unless the 76ers play extremely well then I can't see them winning again in this series. I felt from the beginning they would steal 2 games in this series, which they have done so far, so I fully expect Detroit to end this thing in Game 6.

Houston 95 Utah 69: Wow, we all may have been a little too premature with thinking that we would see a Lakers-Jazz series. Since Rafer Alston has come back into the lineup for Houston, they have really controlled this series. Utah better win Game 6 at home because if they don't I think they will lose this series, which means they would have blown a 3-1 lead.

McGrady led the way in this one and the role players chipped in and did their jobs exceptionally well. Louis Scola and Rafer Alston played exceptionally well. McGrady finished with 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

San Antonio 92 Phoenix 87: Even though San Antonio won this series in five games, it was a great series to watch and last night was no exception. I actually stayed up late to watch this game even though I had to wake up at 6 AM. The game did definitely not disappoint and it's a shame every series couldn't have games as close as these.

Tim Duncan and Tony Parker pretty much dominated in this game combining for 60 points between them and making all the plays down the stretch. Duncan finished with 29 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Parker had another great game with 31 points and 8 assists.

With that being said, Phoenix really blew this game at the free throw line and down the stretch. Surprisingly, when the Spurs went to the Hack-A-Shaq, he actually hit 4 of 6 free throws, which I love to see because you have to feel for Shaq a little bit when they go to this strategy. However, overall in the game, the free throw shooting really killed the Suns as they missed 17 free throws all together. Shaq of course was the main culprit as he missed 11 free throws in total.

The Suns also made way too many turnovers late in the 4th quarter. Steve Nash had at least 2 or 3 possessions that I can remember, where he turned the ball over late in the 4th quarter. Boris Diaw also had a costly turnover really late in the 4th. They really should have won this game but they made way too many mistakes.

Many people thought the Suns would win this series but I really don't see how anyone could pick them over San Antonio, especially after most of them bashed the Shaq trade. Well, that didn't fool me, I had the Spurs in 6 but they did me one better and finished the Suns off in 5. It will be interesting to see what happens to this Suns team in the off season now that they are Gone Fishin'.
