Las Vegas NBA Summer League - Day 4

Day 4 of the Las Vegas NBA Summer League is finished, so here are the boxscores along with a rundown of the action:

(Links for previous days at the bottom)

Game 1 Boxscore: New York Knicks 97 Cleveland Cavaliers 94

Notables:

Wilson Chandler, NYK: 26 points, 11-21 FG, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks
Danilo Gallanari, NYK: 14 points, 5-11 FG, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
Mardy Collins, NYK: 17 points, 4-6 FG, 8-9 FT, 6 rebounds, 5 assists

Darnell Jackson, CLE: 10 points, 4-9 FG, 8 rebounds, 4 turnovers
J.J. Hickson, CLE: 26 points, 11-15 FG, 9 rebounds
Mike Green, CLE: 4 points, 2-9 FG, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover

Comments: Impressive debut by J.J. Hickson, who scored 26 points and pulled down 9 boards. I wasn't sure if he was ready to help the Cavs right away but this certainly caught my attention. That being said, it doesn't look like much defense was played in this game from either team. Danilo Gallanari's debut was not as impressive as Hickson's but it was definitely solid, so Knicks fans should be encouraged by that. Wilson Chandler had a strong game for the Knicks as well, so maybe Isiah Thomas knew what he was doing when he drafted him.

Game 2 Boxscore: Denver Nuggets 90 Toronto Raptors 79

Notables:

Chris Lofton, DEN: 3 points, 1-3 FG, 1-2 3 FG, 1 rebound
Curtis Sumpter, DEN: 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Sonny Weems, DEN: 2 points, 1-7 FG, 2 rebounds, 3 turnovers

Jaycee Carroll, TOR: 3 points, 1-5 FG, 3 rebounds, 1 steal

Comments: Tough second game for Sonny Weems, who played really well in his debut but not here. Curtis Sumpter has had two solid games in a row, not sure if he has a chance to make the Nuggets but he certainly is making a case for himself so far. Nobody really impresses me on Toronto's squad.

Game 3 Boxscore: Portland Trailblazers 78 Washington Wizards 73

Notables:

Andray Blatche, WAS: 17 points, 5-11 FG, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, 8 fouls, 5 turnovers
Gary Forbes, WAS: 2 points, 1-4 FG, 1 assist
JaVale McGee, WAS: 11 points, 5-12 FG, 2 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal
Nick Young, WAS: 17 points, 5-11 FG, 2-4 3FG, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 9 fouls

Nicolas Batum, POR: 3 points, 1-6 FG, 4 rebounds, 4 turnovers
Jerryd Bayless, POR: 28 points, 5-12 FG, 18-23 FT, 4 rebounds, 3 turnovers

Comments: Big debut for Jerryd Bayless but there's no way he's getting to the line 23 times in a regular season game, so he's going to have to do a lot more to impress me. JaVale McGee had a solid debut and the Wizards got some decent play out of Andray Blatche and Nick Young despite the fact they combined for 17 fouls.

Game 4 Boxscore: Houston Rockets 100 Phoenix Suns 97

Notables:

Robin Lopez, PHX: 19 points, 5-13 FG, 9-11 FT, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 7 fouls
D.J. Strawberry, PHX: 22 points, 7-15 FG, 8-12 FT, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
Alando Tucker, PHX: 22 points, 6-16 FG, 2-3 3FG, 8-10 FT, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
Jiri Hubalek, PHX: 10 points, 4-8 FG, 3 rebounds

Aaron Brooks, HOU: 13 points, 4 assists, 6 turnovers, 9 fouls
Joey Dorsey, HOU: DNP
Donte Greene, HOU: 40 points, 12-20 FG, 5-10 3FG, 11-12 FT 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
Joseph Jones, HOU: 0 points, 0-0 FG, 1 rebound, 5 fouls
Russell Robinson, HOU: 7 points, 2-4 FG, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
Marty Leunen, HOU: 16 points, 6-13 FG, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 8 fouls

Comments: Monster debut for Donte Greene, who had 40 points and probably the most impressive debut of any rookie in the summer league so far. I have been high on Greene even though he dropped in the draft, he is still young and he can definitely shoot the rock, so I'm not sure why so many teams were down on him. Not sure why Joey Dorsey didn't play and I'm definitely disappointed about that. Nice debut from Robin Lopez, showing off some offensive skills. D.J. Strawberry and Alando Tucker had strong efforts for the Suns as well.

Game 5 Boxscore: Dallas Mavericks 88 Minnesota Timberwolves 74

Shan Foster, DAL: 17 points, 8-13 FG, 3 rebounds
Gerald Green, DAL: DNP
Jajuan Smith, DAL: 19 points, 6-10 FG, 4-6 3FG, 1 rebound, 1 assists, 1 steal
Charles Rhodes, DAL: 9 points, 4-5 FG, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal
Reggie Williams, DAL: 8 points, 2-7 FG, 3 rebounds, 1 assists, 3 steals

Kevin Love, MIN: 18 points, 7-13 FG, 13 rebounds, 1 assists, 1 steal, 6 fouls, 5 turnovers
Corey Brewer, MIN: 11 points, 5-18 FG, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Drew Neitzel, MIN: 10 points, 4-5 FG, 2-2 3FG

Comments: Solid debut from Kevin Love, despite some foul and turnover troubles. Shan Foster played much better in his second game of the summer league. I still like what Charles Rhodes bring to the table, but we'll see if he makes an NBA roster.

Game 6 Boxscore: San Antonio Spurs 78 Memphis Grizzlies 76

Notables:

Darrell Arthur, MEM: 23 points, 10-15 FG, 6 rebounds, 1 assist
Mike Conley. MEM: DNP
Javaris Crittenton, MEM: 6 points, 2-9 FG, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 7 fouls
O.J. Mayo, MEM: 18 points, 5-17 FG, 2-4 3FG, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
Brian Butch, MEM: DNP

James Gist, SA: 6 points, 3-5 FG, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal
Malik Hairston, SA: 0 points, 0-6 FG, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
George Hill, SA: 17 points, 2-9 FG, 1-2 3FG, 12-16 FT, 8 rebounds, 1 assist

Comments: Darrell Arthur had a solid game offensively hitting 10 of his 15 shots. O.J. Mayo does a little bit of everything but still seems inconsistent when it comes to scoring the ball. James Gist filled up the boxscore nicely. He could be a key bench player for the Spurs this season.

  1. Blazers vs Wizards - you didn't even mention Koponen?!?! You don't rate him 'cause he's from some unknown European country?

  2. Yup, you pretty much nailed it. That's why the boxscore is there, so you guys can look for the players who I don't mention. I'm just following certain players, more than following the summer league.
