Las Vegas NBA Summer League - Day 8

Day 8 of the Las Vegas NBA Summer League is underway, so here are the boxscores along with a rundown of the action so far:

(Links for previous days at the bottom)

Game 1 Boxscore: New York Knicks 85 Phoenix Suns 80

Notables:

Robin Lopez, PHX: 15 points, 7-12 FG, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block
D.J. Strawberry, PHX: 21 points, 7-16 FG, 7-10 FT, 1 rebound, 1 assist
Alando Tucker, PHX: 19 points, 7-10 FG, 3 rebounds, 1 assist
Jiri Hubalek, PHX: 4 points, 2-5 FG, 2 rebounds, 1 assist

Wilson Chandler, NYK: 31 points, 11-19 FG, 1-1 3FG, 8-10 FT, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
Danilo Gallanari, NYK: DNP
Mardy Collins, NYK: 13 points, 4-8 FG, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal

Comments: I have to say the biggest surprise of the Las Vegas Summer League to me has been the play of Wilson Chandler. He has been outstanding in so far and is averaging better than 22 points and 9 rebounds a game. Robin Lopez, D.J. Strawberry, and Alando Tucker continue to play well for Phoenix, so there isn't much else to say about that since it has been the norm.

Game 2 Boxscore: Detroit Pistons 78 Charlotte Bobcats 67

Notables:

Arron Afflalo, DET: 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal
Walter Sharpe, DET: 8 points, 2-4 FG, 1 rebound, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
Deron Washington, DET: 14 points, 6-9 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals
Amir Johnson, DET: 8 points, 2-3 FG, 8 rebounds, 1 block
Trent Plaisted, DET: 3 points, 1-3 FG
Rodney Stuckey, DET: DNP
Kentrell Gransberry, DET: DNP

Alexis Ajinca, CHA: 0 points, 0-4 FG, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
D.J. Augustin, CHA: DNP
Kyle Weaver, CHA: 12 points, 4-5 FG, 2-3 3FG, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Comments: I haven't mentioned this yet but Alexis Ajinca has stunk in the summer league in every game so far. Seems like he really was just a workout wonder. Arron Afflalo has been solid in the summer league so far for Detroit and Walter Sharpe has played well the last couple games.

Game 3 Boxscore: Washington Wizards 72 Cleveland Cavaliers 69

Notables:

Darnell Jackson, CLE: 4 points, 2-2 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 block
J.J. Hickson, CLE: 12 points, 5-11 FG, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks
Mike Green, CLE: 7 points, 1-7 FG, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Andray Blatche, WAS: 22 points, 8-17 FG, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks
Gary Forbes, WAS: 5 points, 2-4 FG, 1-1 3FG, 4 assists
JaVale McGee, WAS: 11 points, 5-12 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks
Nick Young, WAS: 5 points, 1-9 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal

Comments: J.J. Hickson continues to play well for the Cavs. I had blasted the Cavs for drafting such a young player but maybe he is good enough right now to contribute. I keep waiting for Andray Blatche to play consistently well during the regular season. He usually only plays well in flashes but maybe this year he will show some consistency.

Game 4 Boxscore: Toronto Raptors 89 Los Angelese Lakers 71

Notables:

Joe Crawford, LAL: 7 points, 1-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 2 rebounds, 1 assist
Davon Jefferson, LAL: 4 points, 1-3 FG, 2 rebounds
Marcelus Kemp, LAL: DNP
Brian Roberts, LAL: 8 points, 3-7 FG, 2-3 3FG, 1 assist
Pat Calathes, LAL: 10 points, 2-10 FG, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal

Jaycee Carroll, TOR: 2 points, 1-4 FG, 2 rebounds, 1 steal

Comments: Davon Jefferson finally played a game in the summer league but he didn't do much. Not much of note in this game at all so I guess I should take the time out to say how Joey Graham has been playing well for Toronto in the summer but he's been around a while, so I haven't been keeping track of what he's been doing here on the blog. He definitely deserves some mention though since he has been averaging 19.3 points and 6 rebounds a game.

Game 5 Boxscore: Sacramento Kings 94 Golden State Warriors 91

Notables:

Jason Thompson, SAC: 20 points, 7-11 FG, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block
Spencer Hawes, SAC: 13 points, 3-13 FG, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, 7 turnovers
Sheldon Williams, SAC: 12 points, 5-7 FG, 5 rebounds, 1 block
Quincy Douby, SAC: 36 points, 14-21 FG, 3-6 3FG, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks
Sean Singletary, SAC: 1 points, 0-3 FG, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 5 turnovers
Patrick Ewing, JR, SAC: 2 points, 1-3 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 block

Anthony Randolph, GS: 16 points, 6-15 FG, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
Brandan Wright, GS: 8 points, 2-11 FG, 11 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
Marco Belinelli, GS: 6 points, 1-10 FG, 2 assists, 2 steals
DeMarcus Nelson, GS: 11 points, 5-8 FG, 4 rebounds, 1 assist
Richard Hendrix, GS: DNP

Comments: Spencer Hawes did a little bit of everything in this game, including turning the ball over and shooting badly from the field. He still did a lot of other positive things though. Quincy Douby was obviously a beast in this game with 36 points. Jason Thompson came through with another strong game. I think the Kings could be a decent team this year and push for that last playoff spot. For Golden State, Anthony Randolph had a decent game but Marco Belinelli really struggled.

Game 6 Boxscore: Denver Nuggets 105 Houston Rockets 104

Notables:

Chris Lofton, DEN: 0 points, 0-0 FG
Curtis Sumpter, DEN: 9 points, 4-5 FG, 1 steal
Sonny Weems, DEN: 16 points, 5-15 FG, 4 rebounds

Aaron Brooks, HOU: 25 points, 8-16 FG, 2 rebounds, 10 assists
Joey Dorsey, HOU: 22 points, 10-13 FG, 13 rebounds
Donte Greene, HOU: 19 points, 7-15 FG, 2-8 3FG, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks
Joseph Jones, HOU: DNP
Russell Robinson, HOU: 5 points, 1-3 FG, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block
Marty Leunen, HOU: 13 points, 4-8 FG, 3 rebounds, 1 assist

Comments: Monster game from Joey Dorsey, who probably didn't score 22 points all of last season. Donte Green played well again and Aaron Brooks had his best game of the summer. Marty Leunen continues to be efficient on the offensive end.
