Boston 99 Atlanta 65: The Boston Celtics finally took care of business in this game and dispatched of the Atlanta Hawks pretty easily. The Celtics will now be hosting the Cleveland Cavs and Lebron James at home in the first two games on the second round.
The Celtics really stepped up the defense in this one, holding the Hawks to 29.3% shooting from the floor. They also had 10 blocks in the game. Nobody on the Hawks really played a good game and it 's amazing the difference between this team at home and on the road. The Celtics are lucky they had such a great advantage at home over the Hawks.
Offensively, Boston played a balanced game as usual. Paul Pierce did come out more aggressive in this one and took 20 shots in the game. He finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Kevin Garnett also had a strong game finishing with 18 points on 9 of 13 shooting and 11 rebounds.

LA Lakers 109 Utah 98: The Lakers looked really good offensively in this game. Utah could not do much to slow the Lakers down, especially Kobe. Utah may have been a little tired after their series just ended the other night and the Lakers had some time off to rest, so I am not surprised that Utah did not win this game. It will be interesting to see how Utah comes out in Game 2.
Kobe Bryant was pretty unstoppable in this game, which is pretty much what everyone expected because Utah does not have anyone who can match up with him on the defensive end. Kobe had 38 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebound and he pretty much controlled the whole game. He also shot a whopping 23 free throws and made 21 of them. Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol also played well, as Odom finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Gasol had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. The Lakers passing ability was really on display in this game and I was definitely impressed with that aspect of their game.
One thing to take note of in this game is that Utah killed the Lakers on the boards, 58 to 41. Carlos Boozer and Memhet Okur really controlled the boards, pulling down 33 rebounds between them. Deron Williams even chipped in with 9 rebounds. In my preview of this series, I felt that Utah would have to dominate the boards to give them an advantage in this series:

Well, Boozer and Okur were certainly able to dominate the boards in Game 1, but Utah did not have the best night on the offensive end, especially Williams who shot only 5 of 18 from the floor. I think if Utah continues to dominate the boards the way they did in Game 1 then they certainly have a very good chance to beat the Lakers, especially if they can grab some offensive boards. I would imagine that if Utah can grab Game 2 of this series, they would be in very good shape going home were they have played great all season. They definitely need Williams to pick it up on the offensive end though.
