NBA Weekly

Paul Pierce has been getting all sorts of love after his 41 point outburst to lead the Celtics to a Game 7 victory against the Cavs and Bob Ryan thinks Pierce is the greatest pure scorer in Celtics history.

This is something that you hear alot from people who cover the Celtics. I'm sure outsiders would disagree and say that Larry Bird was a better scorer but I think Pierce is the better scorer. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Paul Pierce is better than Larry Bird. Bird is by far the better all-around player but he was more a shooter than a scorer. Pierce can score on jumpers and by driving to the hoop, which leads to both easy buckets and many trips to the free throw line.

Here's a quote from Doc Rivers about Pierce's scoring ability and how he is able to score so well:

"Before I came here I couldn't understand how he scored so well," acknowledged coach Doc Rivers. "He didn't look that quick. But he's very strong, and he has great fundamental footwork. He's never in a hurry, and he knows exactly what he's trying to do. And he can shoot."

There has been many a night when I'm watching Pierce play and he just amazes with all the different ways he is able to score. I still think Pierce is underrated in the eys of the public. Nobody should be getting all bent out of shape when someone says Pierce is the greatest scorer in Celtics history. Pierce is the better scorer. Bird is the better player. End of story.

There has been much speculation that the New York Knicks are going to draft Italian prospect Danilo Gallinari, because Mike D'Antoni used to room with his father when he played ball in Italy. If the Knicks do take Danilo Gallinari , then they should be getting themselves a good player at the small forward position. He is considered the most talented player in Italy right now and has been very productive at a young age playing against a high level of competition in Europe. At 6'9, he has good size for a small forward but of course his weakness might be his foot speed, which seems to be a problem for most European players not named Tony Parker.

According to Carmelo Anthony's agent, the Denver Nuggets will not be trading 'Melo to the Nets. The rumored deal was said to include Marcus Camby along with Carmelo and in return the Nuggets would receive Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams, Keith Van Horn's expiring contract, and the Net's lottery pick this year. Interesting that Camby would be involved in this trade, not only does he resemble Nets' part owner Jay-Z but his $10 million/year contract also expires in 2010, which is the same year that LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all become free agents.

Cleveland Cavs coach Mike Brown is seeing alot of support from people who believe he should not be fired because he doesn't have the best roster to work with and because his team plays great defense. Both of these statements are true and I would not fire Mike Brown for taking a 66 win team to 7 games, while playing with an inferior roster. In all honesty, I think this is pretty much Lebron's decision whether Brown stays or goes. With Lebron up for free agency just two seasons from now, the Cavs shouldn't do anything to piss him off and if he wants Brown as the coach, then Brown is going to be the coach.

Check out this good Kobe Bryant piece by Mizz-O over at TheStartingFive , which wonders why such a great player catches so much grief.

DraftExpress has a good interview with potential first-round pick Chris Douglas Roberts and an analysis of what could happen with the first ten picks of the draft.
