After much speculation that Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni was headed to the Chicago Bulls, it now appears that the New York Knicks will be in competition with the Bulls to hire D'Antoni as well:
NBA coaching sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday that the Knicks continue to regard D'Antoni as their No. 1 target to replace Isiah Thomas and are preparing a "staggering" financial offer they hope will prove too steep for Chicago to compete with, thus convincing D'Antoni to spurn the Bulls. (ESPN)
This move would be great for Knicks fans because at least then the style of play by the Knicks would make them exciting to watch. Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford would definitely light up some teams in the run and gun style that D'Antoni likes his teams to play. However, D'Antoni is said to favor the Bulls as his preferred destination, so unless he goes from the cash, he will probably end up in Chicago.
So where does that leave the New York Knicks? Well, sources say that former Knick point guard Mark Jackson would be the front runner, with ex-Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson also in the mix. My money has been on Mark Jackson being the Knicks guy from the beginning.
