NFL Power Rankings - Week 4

Here are my NFL Power Rankings after Week 4, with last week's ranking in parenthesis:

Week: 1 2 3 4

1. New York Giants (3-0) (2)

With Dallas getting knocked off, the Giants move into the # 1 spot even though they had a bye. I don't think they will stay in this spot all year but they are the defending champs and undefeated, so they are certainly worthy of holding the position. The Plaxico Burress situation is definitely something to keep an eye on though.

2. Dallas Cowboys (3-1) (1)

No shame in losing to Washington, but I have to admit that I don't think the Cowboys have played their best yet. Romo has been good but he's been a little sloppy and like everyone else I don't understand why Marion Barber and Felix Jones weren't used more last week.

3. Tennessee Titans (4-0) (5)

Tennessee just keeps on rolling along and if this keeps up it won't be long before I have them ranked as my # 1 team.

4. Washington Redskins (3-1) (9)

Washington really impressed me this week by winning at Dallas, but if they can win again this week at Philly, then we know for sure that this team is going to be a problem all year long in the NFC.

5. Buffalo Bills (4-0) (8)

Buffalo took care of business against the Rams last week. I think they will have more trouble this week at Arizona, which is not an easy place to play. It's certainly possible that they will be 5-0 and sitting pretty to make a playoff push.

6. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) (3)

The Eagles lost a tough one at Chicago, but they were without Brian Westbrook, so I won't drop them too far. This week's game against Washington is huge and almost a must win for the Eagles.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) (7)

Pittsburgh won again but I'm still skeptical of this team. Now that they have lost their top 2 running backs and one of their best offensive lineman, I will be shocked if they win more than 10 games. I think they are going to take an L this week at Jacksonville.

8. San Diego Chargers (2-2) (10)

The Chargers were very close to losing to the Raiders last week, but they pulled it out in the end. They travel to Miami this week and I'm interested to see how they play. If they struggle with the Dolphins, then I'll be hesitant to move them any higher in the rankings.

9. Denver Broncos (3-1) (6)

Denver took a whooping from Kansas City and their defense does not look like it's going to improve. They have Tampa Bay at home this week and I think Tampa will pull off an upset victory. Denver's defense is going to be a problem all season.

10. Green Bay Packers (2-2) (4)

The Packers had a disappointing loss to Tampa Bay in a game they could have won. Aaron Rodgers was hurt but should play at home against the Falcons, so look for the Packer to bounce back.

11. Carolina Panthers (3-1) (12)

The enigma that is the Carolina Panthers has started the season 3-1. This week they battle the Kansas City Chiefs in what should be a game they win, but I wouldn't be totally surprised to see them slip up.

12. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) (14)

Jacksonville has bounced back nicely from their 0-2 start and gets a banged up Pittsburgh team at home this week. I'm predicting a Jacksonville victory.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) (17)

Tampa Bay continues to find ways to win games and seem to be a better team then I have given them credit for. I think they could spring an upset at Denver this week.

14. New Orleans Saints (2-2) (16)

New Orleans got back on track at home against the 49ers, but this team needs to prove they can win on the road. That will have to wait though because they square off against Purple Jesus this week at home and I expect them to come out victorious.

15. New York Jets (2-2) (20)

Brett Favre hangs 6 TDs on the Cardinals last week as the Jets finally decide to air things out. They have a bye this week, but their schedule is pretty easy the next few games, so you can expect the Jets to move up in the rankings.

16. New England Patriots (2-1) (13)

The Patriots have a big game this week against the 49ers. If they lose, then I think we can write them off, because they will probably struggle for the rest of the season. I think how they play this week will determine a lot about what we should expect from the Patriots going forward.

17. Indianapolis Colts (1-2) (15)

The Colts look like they have a favorable matchup this week against a winless Texans team. I expect the Colts to get the win as they try to keep their season together.

18. Arizona Cardinals (2-2) (11)

The Cardinals got blasted by the Jets last week, but they are at home this week, where they play typically play better. It would be a nice bounce back victory for Arizona if they can beat Buffalo.

19. Chicago Bears (2-2) (23)

The Bears are a lot like the Panthers to me because you never know what you are going to get from them. They are at Detroit this week, which is a game you would expect them to win easily.

20. Baltimore Ravens (2-1) (21)

Even though Baltimore lost to Pittsburgh, I think they showed they will be a factor in AFC Central division. Joe Flacco is holding up pretty well for a rookie QB.

21. San Francisco 49ers (2-2) (19)

The 49ers are not ready to beat playoff caliber teams on the road yet, but they are making progress.

22. Seattle Seahawks (1-2) (22)

Seattle has a huge game this week against the Giants. Even though they don't want to start 1-3, in the NFC West they could probably get away with a 1-3 start and still win the division if they can get healthy.

23. Minnesota Vikings (1-3) (18)

Minnesota has serious issues at QB and at this point I would be surprised to see this team do any better than 8-8.

24. Cleveland Browns (1-3) (24)

The Browns were able to knock off the lowly Bengals to keep their season alive for now. Derek Anderson still does not look good.

25. Atlanta Falcons (2-2) (26)

Like most young teams, the Falcons struggle on the road, which is where they will head again this week to face the Packers.

26. Houston Texans (0-3) (25)

Houston has loss to Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and Jacksonville and this week they face Indianapolis. This team is not as bad as their record shows, but they could be looking at an 0-4 start.

27. Oakland Raiders (1-3) (27)

The Raiders are a mess and you had to know the coach was getting fired after they blew that 15 point lead against the Chargers. I like the progress that JaMarcus Russell is making though.

28. Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) (32)

The Chiefs still stink but they did contribute to exposing Denver's defense. This team has a better chance to win with Huard at QB too.

29. Miami Dolphins (1-2) (30)

Miami will try to prove their against the Patriots was not a fluke when they face off against the Chargers this week.

30. Detroit Lions (0-3) (29)

Detroit could be looking at 0-4 with the Bears coming to town.

31. Cincinnati Bengals (0-4) (28)

The Bengals are a disaster right now and they will likely get pummelled by the Cowboys this week in Dallas.

32. St. Louis Rams (0-4) (31)

The Rams got blown out AGAIN in Week 4, maybe the coaching change will keep them from going 0-16.

1 comment:

  1. I would have had Buffalo and Philly ahead of the skins... westbrook will be back this week... I believe that are going to beat the skins this week... and well Buffalo is playing sorry Arizona this week so they'll probably be 5-0 and this week

I pretty much agree with the rest though... I really wanna see Tennesee play the Giants... I kinda feel like they have an edge over them.
