Did Tim Hightower Get Blocked In The Back During James Harrison's Interception Return?

This block on James Harrison's 100 yard TD return looks like it's really close to being a block in the back to me. What does everyone else think?

  1. Clearly the refs were so focused on the guy with the ball, they forgot to do their job. Warner also was clearly held on the play. Why should the officiating be any better than the regular season? Holmes used the ball as a prop on TD celebration. That's auto 15yds. Kick off from the 20? Not!

  2. Hightower had the correct angle to tackle or at least slow down Harrison. The only way he doesn't is if he's pushed in the back. You can see 56 has his right hand behind Hightower's shoulder and left hand in the small of his back. Blatant penalty should have been called. Horrible officiating in that game, worse I've ever seen in a Superbowl. And I wasn't rooting for either team nor did I have any bets on the game...lol...so that's my unbiased opinion on the play.

That doesn't bother me too much because it doesn't really effect the play on the field. It's after the fact, so I don't have a problem with that one.

It does look like a block in the back to me though. I also thought the roughing the passer call on the Cardinals was ridiculous and running over the place kicker when he was clearly pushed into him was also garbage.

  4. The officiating was appalling in SB XLIII. There were several ticky tack holding calls that backed the Cards into 3rd and very long situations throughout the first half. This blatant no call is just the icing. It boggles the mind that this was not called and that this didn't get more press coverage. As Anonymous poster 2 said, Hightower makes the tackle or gets Harrison out of bounds if he is not hit in the back. Absolutely absurd that this was missed.

  5. The only Super Bowl game with worse officiating was XL. In both games the Steelers won. I wonder if it's incompetence or if one ref or more got bribed. Lots of money swirls around the Super Bowl.
