MLB Postseason Recap

Here's the recap of the MLB action from yesterday:

Milwaukee Brewers 4 Philadelphia Phillies 1: I have to give credit to Dave Bush and the Brewers pitching staff in this game. I didn't think that Bush would pitch as good as he did and I would have thought that the Brewers would have needed more than 4 runs to win this game, but the pitching staff did their job and the Brewers will get to play another day. The Game 4 matchup is Jeff Suppan vs. Joe Blanton and I don't see a clear advantage for either team, so it's quite possible this series might go to a 5th game. Now I don't think the Phillies really want that to happen, so they should play with some sense of urgency in Game 4 or else they could see the momentum in this series slipping away from them. The Phillies' big bats need to start hitting better.

Put On Notice: Chase Utley, Pat Burrell

Los Angeles Dodgers 3 Chicago Cubs 1: What can you say about the Dodgers? Simply amazing. Going into the series, I believed that the Dodgers had a chance to win because of their pitching, but figured that the Cubs could match them in that area and had a good enough lineup to score some runs on the Dodgers. Well, that didn't really happen because the Dodgers were better in all areas of the game. Kind of surprising that the Cubs would go down as easily as they did and makes you wonder how much of that has to do with Joe Torre and his past playoff success. For all his great teams, Lou Pinella has never really won too much in the postseason and I have to wonder if his influence was not as great as Joe Torre's. One issue I have with the Cubs is that they started Dempster in Game 1 instead of Harden, who has been their best pitcher by far. If they start Harden in that game, you might have won that game and this series would be completely different. Unless I'm wrong, the Cubs had already clinched a playoff spot a long time ago and could have set up their rotation anyway they wanted. I feel like they made the wrong decision by not setting it up for Harden in Game 1. The defense also was horrible and they definitely deserved to take an L in that department. The Dodgers become the new favorites in the NL to me. I think we could be looking at a Dodgers-Red Sox World Series.
