MLB Postseason Recap

The Dodgers take Game 3 and get back in the series and possibly gain momentum as well.

Los Angeles Dodgers 7 Philadelphia Phillies 2: The Dodgers jumped on the Phillies early in this one and didn't look back. They dropped a 5 spot on Jamie Moyer and the Phils in the first inning setting the tone for the game. Blake DeWitt's bases loaded triple was the big blow for the Dodgers. Things got a little ugly between the teams in the third inning with both benches clearing after the Dodgers threw over Shane Victorino's head in retaliation for some earlier pitches. You could sense that this was a do or die game for the Dodgers and the Phillies being down don't want to let the Dodgers get any momentum in the series. I think the Dodgers do have the momentum now though and I expect Derek Lowe to come out strong tonight.

Hiroki Kuroda pitched an excelling game for the Dodgers and was able to keep Rollins and Victorino off the base paths. Like any good team, the Phillies need their first two hitters to get on base in front of their big bats and Kuroda was successful in making sure they didn't reach. The Dodgers bullpen looks pretty solid right now too. I love the way Jonathon Broxton is throwing the ball right now and I expect Joe Torre to ride his big right arm in this series until it falls off. The Dodgers really got a balanced effort from their whole team in this game. Everyone in the lineup contributed and the starting pitching and bullpen were both solid.

The Phillies are going to have to get a solid effort from Joe Blanton tonight, because I don't think they are going to get many runs off of Lowe. If the Dodgers can touch up Blanton for 5 runs or more I think they will win this game and that would set up a huge game 5. Game 4 is definitely a must win game for the Dodgers though. They need to keep their momentum going and can't let the Phillies get up 3 games to 1.

Put On Notice: Joe Blanton
